Design of an air bearing granite rotary stage()  
A most uniform speed in a large turntable was required for an x-ray tomograph. Why not set a millstone upon stationary air bearings and use Lorenz actuators to carefully control the speed?

LA250-DLM Linear axis on granite base for highest demands This linear axis is designed to precisely positioning of very high loads with particularly long travels of 500 mm up to 2000 mm. The basis of this positioning system is a granite plate, which allows excellent resolution values to be achieved. The drive concept is based on a dynamic linear motor and a linear measuring system, whereby high speeds and accelerations are achieved with high precision and very good reproducibility. What can be done if the positioning system is to be completely non-conductive? The large legs are from fiber-glass. Everything metallic is therefore far away from the point of interest.

Testing and Measuring  
In addition to this, a large number of test stands were created for series testing, which, in addition to standard parameters, also test customer-specific values and pass special test scenarios. Further parameters such as speed variation, force measurement or specific movement sequences can be measured on agreement. Lifetime tests are carried out in a separate test room. The parameters of the positioning system are measured at the beginning of the test. Subsequently, these parameters are checked at fixed intervals over the expected lifetime. This procedure is continued until the planned end of the service life is reached.

A three axes magnet free stage system. Strokes are at 200 mm for x and each 10 mm for y and z (vertical). The piezo motors used are a custom design and give the manipulator the ability to move loads of up to 2,5 kg with very high resolution. Outstanding stability in nm range is the main advantage of this system.
